Bolette Roed (1979) was taught the recorder privately by soloist Nikolaj Ronimus until 1997 when she entered the Royal Danish Music Academy to study in the class of Professor Dan Laurin. Bolette received her Master’s degree in 2001, and was admitted directly to the soloist class. In the winter and spring of 2003 she additionally studied with professor Pierre Hamon at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon. In March 2004 she had her highly praised debut concert from the advanced solo performance class in Copenhagen.
She has furthermore participated in masterclasses with Peter Holtslag, Pedro Memelsdorf and Marion Verbrüggen, and has received private tutoring from Michala Petri and Gerd Lünenbürger.
Together with her interest in Middle Age, Renaissance and Baroque music, Bolette is also particularly enthusiastic about contemporary music, which has led to several commissions from living composers.
In duo with accordionist James Crabb, as well as in trio with the ensembles Alpha and Paradox, she has premiered several new compositions and has been broadcast by the Danish Public Radio. The ensembles have given concerts in Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, Poland, France, England, Australia and New Zealand. Bolette has thus broadened the repertoire of the recorder and presented her instrument in innovative and interesting contexts.
The recorder trio Paradox (formed together with Dan Laurin and Susanna Laurin), can be heard on BIS-CD-1425. The ensemble Alpha (with Peter Navarro-Alonso, saxophone and David Hildebrandt, percussion), can be heard on Dacapo CD 8.226518.
Furthermore Bolette has appeared as soloist with the orchestras Arte dei Suonatori, Concerto Copenhagen, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Danish Radio Light Orchestra.
In 1995 Bolette won the gold medal at Berlingske Tidendes Classical Music Competition, a prestigious classical music competition for young musicians. In 2006 Alpha was rewarded the 2nd prize in Danish Radio's chamber music competition, as well as the special prize for a contemporary work.
Bolette has been awarded several prizes and scholarships. In 2003 she was awarded a major scholarship from Jacob Gade's Foundation. Furthermore she was Danish Radio's 2005 Musician in residence.
